Renault New Mégane Coupé-Cabriolet

Being the latest addition to the current five-model lineup means the Coupé-Cabriolet benefits from manufacturing experience gained from the other models.

Its main attraction is of course the glazed folding glass roof covering an area of 0.47 square metres (5 square ft). Accessing the fully-automatic, electro-hydraulic opening mechanism, passengers will be able to enjoy open-top motoring through the touch of a button which lowers the two-piece roof in about 21 seconds.

A fixed glass wind deflector ensures minimal cabin wind intrusion and works for speeds up to 90km/h (56mph). For greater velocities a removable mesh deflector can be added.

2011 Nissan Micra Global Car

Nissan introduced the fourth-generation of their Nissan Micra supermini at the Geneva Motor Show earlier today. Called the "March" in the Japanese market, the car now features body-coloured mouldings, larger front bumper with one-piece radiator grille, and a flatter rear.

Of importance to Nissan was not just the recreation of a useful urban car, but also to give the car an appealing look for a wide customer base. Nissan plans to sell the car in 160 different markets worldwide. "The car has to charm a global audience," said Nissan designer Makoto Yamane. "Its face had to look stylish and have an air of sophistication to it."

Lexus CT 200h

Based on the LF-Ch concept, which debuted at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, the CT 200h was "designed and developed with the European market in mind." The five-door hatchback features Lexus' L-finesse design philosophy, LED daytime running lights, and a wraparound rear window. Inside, the car has an asymmetrical dashboard, metallic accents, and an eight-inch LCD screen.

Under the hood, power comes from a 1.8-liter four-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine and a magnet synchronous electric motor. While the company declined to release performance data, they stated the front-wheel drive CT 200h has four selectable drive modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and EV. The latter turns the car into a full electric-vehicle at speeds up to 28 mph for up to 1.2 miles.

2011 Renault Wind Blows its Top

The small roadster, which can convert itself from a closed-top coupe to a no-roof cabriolet in just 12 seconds, is only 3.83 meters in length and comes with a choice of two gasoline/petrol engines - a 1.2 and a 1.6 liter.

The 1.2 liter is a turbocharged powerplant that delivers a comfy 100 PS (74 kW) and 152 Nm (112 lb-ft) of torque. Likely plenty for a car this small. The more lively performer is the 16-valve 1.6 liter with 133 hp (98 kW) and 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) of torque borrowed from the Twingo RS and developed by Renault Sport Technologies.

Citroen DS3 Racing Promo Video

Trading on its WRC credentials, Citroen has developed a sport version of the DS3 with a 1.6 liter THP engine pumped up to 200 PS (147 kW / 197 hp) and 275 Nm (203 lb-ft) of torque. The track has also been widened by 30 mm from the standard DS3, both front and back, the suspension stiffened and lowered by 15 mm, and the steering has been tightened too.

The DS3 Racing features the same design as the standard model but comes fitted with a host of carbon finished body panels. Those parts include the semi-rigid front bumper, a rear spoiler, side-door moldings, and the lower-body trim and wing extensions which accentuate the 18-inch sport wheels. Other details include the chrome-finished exhaust pipe and the LED lights at the front.

Porsche will put the next generation Porsche Cayenne for sale in Europe on May 8. This will follow the SUV's world debut in Geneva next week, and its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show at the end of March.

U.S. customers wanting to pick up the S or the Turbo will have to wait until July. The Cayenne and Cayenne S Hybrid will not hit the North American market until the fall. Each of these will be released as a 2011 model.

Bentley Mulsanne - The art of color

Exacting standards of craftsmanship and technology are employed by Bentleys body assembly team to create the new Mulsannes distinctive, hand-crafted hewn form solid appearance. But this is just a precursor to the painstaking attention to detail afforded to Bentleys new 4-door flagship in the paint facility at the companys headquarters in Crewe, England.

The new Mulsanne will be offered in no fewer than 115 standard colours and that is just the start of the story because, like every grand Bentley the only real limit on the colour of the car is the customers imagination.

Once the bare metal, pre-production Mulsanne bodyshell arrives at the paint shop via the automated overhead gantry, it passes through a series of full-immersion tanks, designed first to de-grease, then in turn to clean, condition, rinse, phosphate and passivate the steel and aluminium structure.

At each tank the shell is immersed before being tipped fore and aft to ensure that every single crevice is reached. Once drained, the bodyshell is lowered into an electro-coating tank, where power is increased to 320 volts, attracting particles-in-solution to deposit on the charged, metal bodywork to form, in conjunction with the phosphate, a hard protective shell of corrosion-proof zinc primer.

From this point, the judgement and skill of Bentleys craftsmen come to the fore. A two-coat primer is applied by hand, ready for colour-of-choice to be applied. Each primed body is minutely inspected, sanded or flatted using a combination of hand and power tools. Only when the primer coat is flawless will the colour basecoat be applied, again by hand, to achieve the optimum finish. Clear lacquer coats are then applied robotically followed by final polishing for a perfectionist finish and detailed inspection in the specialist bays created for the Mulsanne.

But if the lacquer can be applied by robotics, why not the colour? Dave Walton of the Mulsanne bespoke paint shop explains:

Different colours have markedly different characteristics and your perception of a colours shade changes according to how deep the coat is. Then theres the fact that no two expert sprayers would apply that colour basecoat in exactly the same way. You learn to trust each craftsmans eyes and skills, not just the process.

It takes many months of in-depth training for a quality control inspector to learn how to identify defects that an owner might never notice, yet each one will be rectified, even if this means sending it around the entire process again. We always operate way above customer expectations of quality,

With the introduction of new satin paint finishes and two-tone colour schemes to Bentleys extensive portfolio, Walton says the skills of the team are always evolving. Satin in particular cant be locally reworked and polished, so even the most miniscule imperfection means the entire panel is refinished.

However, Bentleys craftsmen are eagerly awaiting the moment the Mulsanne goes into full production according to Walton:

Weve been asked to match a paint finish to a cherished nail polish, a 50-year old classic Bentley and on one occasion a shade of turquoise on a food mixer for our Arnage, Brooklands and Azure customers. But even with over a hundred standard colours to choose from were still looking forward to that first commission to create a bespoke colour from scratch and execute it perfectly.

The Pagani Zonda R is the Italian supercar maker's most track-focused car. At the foundation of its performance lies a 48-valve 6.0-litre V12 engine acquired from Mercedes-Benz AMG division. It kicks out 750hp (552kW) and maximum torque rated at 710Nm. Accessing this power is a 6-speed sequential gearbox from XTRAC which runs the big Pirelli P Zero rear 335/30/20 tyres. Front rubber measures 255/35/19. Together they hurl the Zonda R from a standing position to 100km/h in 2.7 seconds. Top speed is estimated at over 350km/h.
